THE GREENSIDE MURAL
Greenside Primary earns the star on its Grade II* listing for this exceptional mural by Gordon Cullen, painted in 1952. Erno Goldfinger designed the school and commissioned Cullen to paint the mural. It is of ‘school subjects’, rather in the style of mid-century publications like Puffin Picture Books. Images include Dover Castle, the de Havilland Comet and the locomotive Britannia 70000. After years of being covered over the Friends of the Greenside Mural have raised enough funds to restore the mural. They wish to complete the project by raising funds to repair the original terrazzo floor in the foyer and to fulfil their aim " To rehabilitate, restore, appreciate, protect and celebrate the Gordon Cullen Mural in the context of the Erno Goldfinger building to the benefit of the whole school community and enrich the Learning Environment.”
