Nextdoor, bringing a sense of community back to neighbourhoods

Nextdoor is a new social media platform that is being used by neighbourhoods across Hammersmith & Fulham – and, indeed, across the UK.

People use Nextdoor to share information on local events, alert each other about crime and safety issues, sell or give away unwanted items, find a lost pet, organise a park clean-up, find a babysitter – and simply get to know their neighbours! In many communities, people are also using Nextdoor to set up a book club or exercise class, organise a skill-swap or arrange a rota for helping an elderly neighbour. At Nextdoor, we believe that when neighbours start talking, good things happen!

Nextdoor is a unique platform that can bring together all the different strands of the community. Many community organisations, voluntary groups and residents’ associations across the borough also use Nextdoor to promote what they do to their community, find new volunteers or members, advertise classes and invite neighbours to their events.

And, if you have a small business, you’ll be interested to know that later this year, Nextdoor will be introducing special business pages, which will give local businesses the opportunity to have a free page on Nextdoor where they can advertise their services or products, and where local residents will be able to see recommendations from their neighbours.  This is a great way to connect you with your customer base on your doorstep!

To sign up to Nextdoor, go to www.nextdoor.co.uk and follow the instructions. You will be asked to verify your address; we ask people to do that so that everyone can trust that the people they are talking to are genuinely their neighbours.

Once you are signed in, you can add some profile information about yourself – and include details about your business or organisation too. And then you’re ready to start talking to your neighbours!

If you would like to set up a business page when they become available, register your interest now at: www.nextdoor.co.uk/business
